According to the Urban Dictionary, a Carboholic is “someone who consumes carbohydrates in excess, to a point of harming themselves or other relationships.” Eating carbs has never negatively impacted my relationships with others if anything it helps my relationships. Try having to tell your friends you can’t order food from taco bell or burger king; now that puts a strain on a relationship.
Eating out when your gluten-free is an experience, I have to customize every meal and you can guarantee that the majority of the time your order will not be correct. My favorite part about dining out is when the beautiful hot basket of fresh bread hits the table, it takes every bit of impulse control (which is not very high by the way) to keep me from reaching across the table and eating the whole basket.
Gluten is much more than just your standard bread at dinner, you have to make sure the sauce has no flour, the chicken is not breaded and converts sandwiches into salads. This may seem like a simple task, but if you’re like me and extremely picky to begin with it always makes dinner impossible.
I am always at my weakest when I am out to eat, especially with friends or family. Family judges everything I order, and friends order everything I would eat if I wasn’t gluten-free. It's not all bad though, many places have added gluten-free options to their menus and depending on the place they could have some amazing dishes.
Personally, I define a Carboholic as someone who has the inability to avoid consuming carbs on a daily basis. I see it as an uncontrollable urge that you regret later but need at that moment (cut to a scene from Confessions of a Shopaholic)…..
I never realized how much carbs I was consuming on a daily basis, until after I started cutting out gluten from my diet. Since making the shift to a gluten-free diet, I feel more energized and eat more balanced meals. Overall, a gluten-free lifestyle is the best and healthiest options for me personally, which is why I am determined to stick with it no matter how bad my cravings for carbs gets.
